MPU 2018 End of Year/Xmas Party - December 9th
as remembered by President Steve

What can we say about our end of year party that won't get us sued? Well, there are a few things, and a number of thanks we'd like to offer.

The event was held on a Sunday afternoon at Footscray's Night Heron bar. If you were at our 40th birthday you'll remember the space, or at Loran's regular monthly poetry gigs over the last couple of years. It's a space we're always happy to find ourselves in, and this was no exception.

We started a bit late with the official proceedings, but then it was a party, so can you really say we started late? We had beer and wine at the advertised time so actually we were quite prompt. And what we wanted was a day to relax, chat, and not stress too much about running orders. So that's what we did.

Of course there were the obligatory speeches, but they were kept brief so we could get to the all important open stage. No features this day, just a bunch of poets mucking about, while also reading fabulous poetry. Some of the poetry was Christmas themed. Yes, even mine. Turns out I actually have a little book of Christmas poems. You may not have known that. I won't list everyone who read on the open stage, because I know I'd forget someone, but it was a very lively and lovely lot of poets.

Special thanks to our most boisterous poet/audience member for the day, Yvette Stubbs, who came all the way from Gippsland and made us laugh like loons. Side note: never have so many jokes about not for profit committee positions gotten so many laughs as they did this day. You sort of had to be there, and maybe you were. If not you definitely should get to our next one. Apparently we're pretty damn funny.

Thanks to our raffle sponsors Adibeh Abdo-Attia (for the book), Night Heron (for the bottle of wine) and MPU for the books. Yes, we sponsored our own raffle. Well of course. Thanks to everyone who donated to our organisation in time and money - especially our book/raffle/membership table dwellers Xtine Burrows and Marty MonStar. Your help was truly invaluable. And of course to 'Secretary' on sound and 'Poam Editor' and 'President' on MCing duties.

I'm looking for photos, so if you have any let us know and I'll upload them here.
